CENTRAL ACADEMY STILL WAITING ON VALIDATION,REPAIRS AND RESTORATION!

Since I last blogged on this site I tried to contact the group for Central Academy. Sadly I was not able to get in contact with anyone, i checked several links on the site and could not obtain any data. I will be soon posting current pictures and updates about Central Academy.

Here is the link & banner from their website :  http://cahbulldogs.weebly.com/resolution-no-8-6.html

Our mission is to obtain funds to "rescue", "restore", and "preserve" the building and grounds of the first accredited black high school in the state of Florida to honor the legacy of its past, uphold the remaining dignity of its present and secure its place in community, city, county, and state history for future generations

David M. Calhoun commented on it:  He stated, “Others constantly remind us that this is our history.  As heirs and stewards of this legacy, it is our responsibility to revive and secure it.  Not just for our African American culture and history, but for the city, county, and state as well.  Our future depends on it!"-David M. Calhoun

The Putnam County School Board did NOT CARE ABOUT THE BLACK EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL OR FACTUAL HISTORY ENOUGH TO HELP FOR ALL OF THE YEARS WHILE THEY OWNED THE PROPERTY, BUT THEY PASSED THE BUCK TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY.

HERE IS AN PRIOR POSTED ARTICLE FROM MY FIRST ORIGINAL ARTICLE "HOW IT ALL BEGAN"
"The work of placing Central Academy on the National Register of Historic Places was primarily accomplished by Mr. Lawrence Hutcherson of Palatka Fl.32177.  Mr. Lawrence Hutcherson and Steven Bell had been meeting and discussing with the Putnam County school board for over 7 years. These included  David Buckles, Jerry Melosh and other consecutive Superintendents. The School Board did not what to release the building to a non-profit organization (even though the Historic guidelines informed them that they could.)" from my article "how it all began" http://www.centralacademyhistoricschoolpalatka.blogspot.com/

I heard a nasty rumor that now since the new bus terminal is almost completed the Putnam School Board wants to demolish and tear down Central Academy. Funny... they help create the problem starting with (the 3 time past School Board Superintendent)  David Buckles.

Update:
Buckles has been sworn in by the Governor and a member of the School Board, see: http://pcsdpd.typepad.com/news/2013/10/governor-appoints-david-buckles-to-school-board.html

                WHAT! WHAT! ...HOW SADLY IRONIC!

This is a Palatka City Hall Resolution which is posted on the website of Central Academy Bulldogs:

CITY HALL - PALATKA, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NUMBER 8-6
A resolution of the city of Palatka, Florida opposing the demolition of the Historic Palatka Central Academy Building and supporting the mission of the Save Historic Central Academy Committee to study alternatives to it's demolition and to seek funds to renovate the building for use a community center.

WHEREAS, Palatka's Central Academy Elementary/High School was built in 1937 at 1200 Washington Street after the original building was destroyed by fire; and

WHEREAS, Palatka's Historic Central Academy Elementary/High School, which housed it's last elementary class in 1971, was accredited by the Sate of Florida in the mid-1920s, and holds the distinction of being the first accredited black high school in the Sate of Florida; and

WHEREAS, since the day it opened, the Historic Central Academy School has been a source of pride and served as a focal point of Putnam County's black communities, as black children were bused there from outlying communities 20-30 miles away, and

WHEREAS, this school, its students, and teachers produced championship basketball and football teams, award-winning bands, and many community leaders; and

WHEREAS, this historic building which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, has fallen into despair and has been abandoned by the Putnam County School Board; and

WHEREAS, in lieu of demolition, the Putnam County School Board has indicated it will consider donating this historic building to an entity for renovation and repairs, and

WHEREAS, the Save Historic Central Academy Committee has been formed in order to seek alternative to demolition, funding, and community-wide support to save this historic building for future use as community building a learning center for the entire community.

Well it appears Mr. Calhoun that  IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN REVIVED NOR SECURED. IT IS ALSO CLEAR THAT NO  ONE HAS CARED  ENOUGH, OR HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE ENOUGH FOR THEIR EFFORTS TO BE FRUITFUL, JUST A LOT OF MEETINGS, TALKING AND MUCH VERBAL RAMBLINGS! THE HOUSING AUTHORITY IS SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING ON IT BUT WE WILL CONTINUE TO WAIT AND SEE....(WHILE PRAYING AND BELIEVING THAT THE RIGHT PEOPLE,PLACES, FUNDING MONEY & THINGS WILL COME TOGETHER)
